One of the most famous holidays in Georgia is Grape harvest, called ‘’Rtveli’’. Which is held in autumn , annually !
Harvest is special for us because we have the history of the viticulture of 8000 years and of course the tradition of Rtveli dates back to ancient times.
Usually, for harvest , the whole family gathers in the villages , but Rtveli is far from being limited to just families, however, and any traveler in Georgia may participate in the holiday! Owners of both large and small family vineyards will happily welcome guests into their circle and will be grateful for extra sets of hands to help with the grape harvest. So next time you are in Georgia , feel free to join Kumbati’s vineyards for Harvest!
Rtveli usually remains in full swing for 3 days, and while the working hours can be long, the entire family awaits the large gathering at the table each evening to enjoy a well-deserved Georgian supra (feast) and the companionship of family and friends.
